A little piece information of Bukittinggi 'The Sanjai City'

Bukittinggi, ‘The City of Sanjai’

Hi Everybody! Well, this time I wanna tell you about my hometown, Bukittinggi. Bukittinggi is a very interesting city in West Sumtera. You can find everything you want here. Well, not everything. But. I’m sure you will get so many good things here.

First of all I should tell you how to find this city. I mean the location of Bukittinggi. It is situated in the Minangkabau highlands, 90 km by road from the West Sumatran capital city of Padang. It is located at 0°18′20″S 100°22′9″E, near the volcanoes Mount Singgalang (inactive) and Mount Marapi (still active).

And you know, at 930 m above sea level, the city has a cool climate with temperatures between 16.1°-24.9°C. Which mean, definitely, you don’t need AC here. Sounds nice, right?

If Paris has Eiffel Tower, Bukittinggi also has a famous tower. It called ‘Jam Gadang’ (big clock). ‘Jam Gadang’ has something unique on the number. Wanna know what’s that? Well, if you wanna know, come here! ^_^ Hahahah! The garden around the ‘Jam Gadang’ is very comfort. You can spend a little time just for sit on the park bench with friend or with yourself while eat ice cream. Sounds fun, huh?

Talking ‘bout food. In my torn, you can find many foods with  unique and delicious taste. For example, katupek, pical, rending, and many others. But, of course, if you come here you can’t forget to buy ‘sanjai’. Sanjai is special chips from Bukittinggi.

Next to the park, you can see the market. It called ‘Pasar Atas’ (Up market). It’s a traditional market. But, of course, you can find many things here. Clothes, furniture, food and others. You can see how the seller does their jobs. They will, you know, call people to buy their stuff loudly, or you can say, scream. That’s not mean their impolite. It’s normal.

Beside ‘Pasar Atas’, you can find other markets. Like ‘Pasar Aur’, ‘Pasar Bawah’ and ‘Aua Tajungkang’. Well, I forgot to tell the other good places to visit. You can visit the zoo. Maybe the zoo is good as the other zoo in the world. But, in this zoo, beside the animal you can the traditional house of West Sumatera, ‘Rumah Gadang’ (big house). It’s very unique. You should see it !

And other place is Benteng (fort). You know why it called fort ? Because there is a fort there. Fort de Kock. But, it’s not the only thing that makes this place special. The view of this place is very good. So green, fresh and very comfort.

Wait, there something that I forget to tell you. Even Bukittinggi is  a small city, but you can find many vehicles here. But, there is something you should try. In Bukittinggi there is a public transport called bendi. It’s a vehicle that used horse as the machine. It feels like back to the old year.

And of course, you can’t forget ‘Ngarai Sianok’, it’s a valley. There are so amny little  rivers with clean and clear water here. And of course, there are other places to visit , but I thought it’s enough for now. I will tell you more later. -_^
